What They Say

“Though I didn’t know it at the time, CDS meant everything to me. Ultimately, I was the one who made the choice to turn my life around and go down a new path.”
Student, Fort Lee, NJ

“I want to personally thank you for all of your help with this very difficult family. Their son is in great need of treatment and I know both parents are comforted by the high level of care that he will receive at Cornerstone. For them I know that they see the 24/7 hot line as a godsend: Mom said that it’s the first time that she can really sleep at night.”

Case Manager, Essex County, NJ

“Cornerstone meant a lot to me. It taught me how to cope. It has truly made me the person I am today, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

Student, Union, NJ

“The Addams Family” at Cornerstone

"The Addams Family: A new musical comedy"

Art and music are two curriculum areas that often work in tandem on school activities and projects. This has never been more truer than during the springtime school musical. This year’s musical proves to be fun and entertaining, “The Addams Family.” The quirkiness of the characters and the unusual settings will certainly pique our interest.

All students are encouraged to participate in the musical in any way they can contribute. This includes but is not limited to acting and singing, set design, costume design, and lighting, to name a few.

Play sign-ups were conducted last month, and Ms. Engstrom, our school’s music teacher, assigned roles to the actors. We have a diverse cast, with students taking on roles like Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, and Pugsley. Practice began shortly after that. There are days when practice is during the school day, and as we get closer to the performance date, there are practices after school.

Sets are created with the help of Cornerstone’s own art teacher, Ms. Constas, and school instructional aide, Mr. Lopez.

A field trip to the local vintage shop sent our students on a hunt for outfits that would work as costumes for characters in the show. They were successful, and the students were excited to design the clothing into costumes for the show.

We are incredibly excited to see this year’s school production of The Addams Family. The show performances occur on Thursday, March 21, 6:30-8:00, and Friday, March 22, 1:00-2:30.
