What's Happening at Cornerstone? News and Updates

Parents, Students and Educators
What They Say

“Though I didn’t know it at the time, CDS meant everything to me. Ultimately, I was the one who made the choice to turn my life around and go down a new path.”
Student, Fort Lee, NJ

“I want to personally thank you for all of your help with this very difficult family. Their son is in great need of treatment and I know both parents are comforted by the high level of care that he will receive at Cornerstone. For them I know that they see the 24/7 hot line as a godsend: Mom said that it’s the first time that she can really sleep at night.”

Case Manager, Essex County, NJ

“Cornerstone meant a lot to me. It taught me how to cope. It has truly made me the person I am today, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

Student, Union, NJ

Cornerstone introduces CORE

Cornerstone’s Opportunity for a Real-world Experience

We are excited to announce the official launch of our new school-wide initiative, CORE, and CORE+, this September. CORE stands for “Cornerstone’s Opportunity for Real-world Experiences.”

The CORE and CORE+ are comprehensive transition programs that prepare students for life after graduation through employability skills training. It emphasizes career awareness, job exploration, and professional skill development by placing students in authentic workplace environments.

This partnership will help students gain vital skills and support various local businesses and facilities through volunteer support and community engagement.

The primary objectives of the CORE and CORE + internship program are to:

  • Provide students with career exploration opportunities.
  • Develop technical, interpersonal, and self-management skills.
  • Expose students to real-world employment expectations.
  • Help students transition smoothly into adult life, including employment or further education.
  • Promote responsibility, punctuality, professional attire, and workplace etiquette.

The internship duration, hours, and start date will be mutually agreed upon before placement. Students may be scheduled for part-time shifts during school hours or based on the business’s availability. This is a non-paid internship.

CORE is for students in grades 11 and 12, and CORE+ is for students 18-21.

Our inaugural class started the first week of school and is having a positive experience already!
