What's Happening at Cornerstone? News and Updates

Parents, Students and Educators
What They Say

“Though I didn’t know it at the time, CDS meant everything to me. Ultimately, I was the one who made the choice to turn my life around and go down a new path.”
Student, Fort Lee, NJ

“I want to personally thank you for all of your help with this very difficult family. Their son is in great need of treatment and I know both parents are comforted by the high level of care that he will receive at Cornerstone. For them I know that they see the 24/7 hot line as a godsend: Mom said that it’s the first time that she can really sleep at night.”

Case Manager, Essex County, NJ

“Cornerstone meant a lot to me. It taught me how to cope. It has truly made me the person I am today, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

Student, Union, NJ

Graduation & Beyond

When students first enter Cornerstone, we discuss the concept of transition with them. Our goal is for each student to learn to manage their emotional health so they can return to the district, move to a less therapeutic school, or graduate. I would like to take this moment to recognize our students who will be transitioning, graduating, and moving on to life after Cornerstone.

I am pleased to announce that we graduated twenty-three students from our high school program. Some students will be entering the workforce, while most will be attending college. Our students have been accepted into prestigious institutions such as Rutgers, Penn State, and Montclair University, as well as various community colleges around the state.

Most middle school students entered our high school program here at Cornerstone, and some transitioned back to their home districts to start high school in their neighborhood school.

Our remaining students enjoyed a week off in the first week of July and returned to us for our summer schedule, entering their next year of study.

The summer schedule consists of a shorter day and shorter week, with students focusing on their academics and therapeutic care. Each Thursday during the summer months, there are field trips to a variety of places, which can include bowling, the museum, the boardwalk, and glass blowing, among others. I know both students and staff look forward to our summer days.

Congratulations to all who have graduated, moving up and/or on. Also, congratulations to all our students for completing another successful year of hard work and accomplishments.
